June 6, 1944 (D-Day), Allied forces consisting of American, Australian, British and Canadians troops, stormed the beaches at Normandy, France against well fortified German forces. In the allied assault, more than 10,000 troops were either killed, wounded or missing in action. The fighting in Europe would continue until May 7th, 1945 when Germany surrendured to the Allies. The next day, May 8th, 1945. would thereafter be referred to VE Day, Victory in Europe.
This was a time when Americans stood up and took action against any agression by any nation that threatened the United States and its allies. Politically correct was a term not yet known or ever considered when facing anyone who dared to threaten the safety of America.
The war in the Pacific would continue until August 15th, 1945, when the Japanese, after being bombed twice in Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the Atomic Bomb, surrendered to the Allies.
It was acts of courage and bravery by these allied forces that allow us to breathe the fresh air of freedom in America.
Please take the time on June 6th to remember and pray for the men and women of the armed forces, past and present.
Jockey Calvin Borel has a chance to become the only jockey to win all three Triple Crown horse races in a season when he rides Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird in the Belmont stakes tomorrow at Belmont Park. Borel won the Kentucky Derby aboard Mine THat Bird and the Preakness Stakes aboard super filly Rachel Alexandra. Mine That Bird is the early favorite in tomorrow's race and I'd love to see him win the race.Every time I feel that there is not enough fodder to fuel my journal, I know that I can always rely on any of our political leaders, especially presidents, both past and present, to initiate what I call the "dog-shit-new-carpet syndrome" which is where they step in ca-ca and track it all over the world. The following is a prime example.....
Barack Obama's World Apolgy Tour is going very well and he has made several speeches explaining how sorry we Americans are for over-reacting to the more than three thousand deaths and injuries due to suicide missions made by Islamic terrorists on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
In a gesture to the Islamic world, Obama conceded at the beginning of his remarks that tension "has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims, and a Cold War in which Muslim-majority countries were often treated as proxies without regard to their own aspirations."
"And I consider it part of my responsibility as president of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear," said the president, who recalled hearing prayer calls of "azaan" at dawn and dusk while living in Indonesia as a boy.
This, of course prompted Saudi King Abdul Aziz, a staunch admirer of terrorist hip-hop music, to award Obama the Order of Merit, a large medallion with a thick gold chain. Obama was thrilled at the award adding that it was an even greater honor than his recent Acorn banquet ceremony where he was the recipent of Mr. T's "Pity The Foo" medallian.
This Date In History: 1900; American novelist, poet, and journalist Stephen Crane dies of tuberculosis at the age of 28, five years after his novel The Red Badge of Courage gained international acclaim. 1916; General Kitchener is killed when HMS Hampshire, on which he is travelling, strikes a mine and sinks off the Orkney Islands.
1967; On the first morning of the Six-Day War, Israel attacks Egypt. By the day's end Israeli forces will have virtually destroyed the air forces of both Egypt and Jordan. 1968; On the night he wins the California Democratic presidential primary, Robert F. Kennedy is shot by Sirhan B. Sirhan in Los Angeles. He dies of his wounds the next day.
1975; In a referendum on its continuing membership, the United Kingdom electorate vote two-to-one in favour of staying within the Common Market, now the European Union. Picture Of The Day: Even I felt bad for President Obama when he was given the gold medalian by Saudi King Abdul Aziz. Although he had no choice but to be polite and accept the award, he must have been thinking that the photoshop guys and the political cartoonists would have a field day with this and he be right !
Bankruptcy is also a theme of the photoshop guys and one of their targets is California. Under the leadership of Ahhnold, the state is close to bankruptcy and the photoshop guys have taken shots at Ahhnold and others as well.
There's an old saying, "be careful of who and what you wish (and vote) for because it may come back to bite you in the ass."

Printable Things I Never Told You: 1) Am I the only person who opens the refrigerator and just stands there staring inside? 2) I have the inate ability to run into ghosts of girlfriends past when I'm accompanied. The good thing is that I'm friends with most of them with the exception of "the stalker." 3) In a hostage situation, my ex-mother-in-law would be one of the first hostages released. 4) One of the good things about older people is that your secrets are safe with them because they can't remember them either. 5) Having sex is like playing bridge. If you don't have a good partner, you'd better have a good hand. The Hits Just Keep On Coming:
A seven year-old turns up in his classroom one morning to be confronted by his teacher, Mrs. Jones, who said, "Morning Tommy, and why weren't you at school yesterday?" Tommy said, "Well Mrs. Jones, my Grandad got burnt." Mrs. Jones said, "Oh Dear, he wasn't too badly hurt, I hope?" Tommy replied, "Oh yes he was Ma'am. They don't mess around at those crematoriums."
A fire fighter is working on the engine outside the station when he notices a little boy next door in a little red wagon with a tiny ladders hung off the side and a garden hose tightly coiled in the middle. The boy is wearing a fire fighter's helmet and has the wagon tied to a dog and a cat.
The fire fighter walks over to take a closer look. He says to the boy, "That sure is a nice fire truck." The little boys says, "Thanks." As the fire fighter looks a little closer, he notices the boy has tied the wagon to the dog's collar and to the cat's testicles.
The fire fighter says, "Little partner, I don't want to tell you how to run your fire truck, but if you were to tie that rope around the cat's collar, I think you could go faster." The little boy says, "You're probably right, but then I wouldn't have a siren."
An old man was sitting on a bus when a young man sat down beside him. He had spiked hair in all different colors; green, red, orange, blue, and yellow. The old man just stared. Every time the young man looked, the old man was staring.
The young man finally said sarcastically, "What's the matter old timer, never done anything wild in your life?" Without batting an eye, the old man replied, "Got drunk once and had sex with a peacock. I was just wondering if you were my son.
That's it for today my little animal crackers. It's Friday and I'm going to AREA 51 for happy hour and perhaps a little more. Have a great weekend and more on Monday.

ReplyDeletegreat entry Jimmy. June 6th (1950) is my brother's birthday. I wonder if my mom & dad thought about D-Day when he was born on that day? My dad served in WWII so I'm sure it crossed their minds. We heard while in California that Ahhnold is closing 200 State Parks in that state. They all charge a fee, where are people supposed to go? The most significant one is the Donner Pass Memorial Park. It actually costs $14 a person by the time you enter the park & then pay to get into the Memorial. With gas prices up around $3 a gallon already, those folks will need places to go locally for R & R. It's just ridiculous! Thanks again for a great entry...
